ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is expecting about 400,000 hunters to take part in firearms deer season that opens on Saturday.
Before heading into the fields and woods, hunters should review updated hunting regulations and have a current license which can be purchased by mobile app, online or in person from a license agent. The license can then be carried as a digital copy, on paper or stored in the app.
According to the DNR, deer populations in the northeast region of the state are variable. This year was favorable for reproduction, and hunters should see more deer.
However, populations in the far northeast portion of the region remain low, and winter severity was high, with snow remaining into spring. In these areas, bag limits remain conservative to give local deer populations a chance to grow.
The archery season for deer began on September 19th and continues until the end of the year. The firearms season begins Saturday (11-7) with various closing dates depending on the deer permit area. There is also a muzzleloader season that starts on November 28th and continues through December 13th.
