DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Superior National Forest will begin some fall prescribed fire operations this week on the Gunflint and Tofte Ranger Districts.
The east zone fire operations will continue through December as weather conditions allow.
Prescribed fires help to reduce overgrown vegetation and protect communities, infrastructure and natural resources from potential wildfires.
Watch for warning signs along roads in the areas of Cook and Lake County prescribed fires. Motorists are asked to slow down and use your headlights if you encounter smoke and to watch for firefighters.
National Forest staff will evaluate weather conditions before operations begin and areas to be burned can be found on the U-S Forest Service Facebook page and online at InciWeb.wildfire.gov, the Interagency Incident Information System.
