Sep 24 (Field Level Media) – The PWHL will host its first All-Star event on March 7 in Toronto, the league announced on Thursday.
Four teams will compete in a three-on-three, round-robin tournament at Scotiabank Arena on March. The teams are: PWHL Canada, PWHL USA, PWHL International and PWHL Rookies.
After the round robin, the top-ranked team will play the winner of a contest between the second- and third-ranked teams.
Each roster will have 10 players (six forwards, three defenders and one goaltender) selected through a combination of fan, player and media voting. Reserve players will be selected by PWHL hockey operations.
“The PWHL was built to feature the best players in the world, and now fans will see the highest level of skill in women’s hockey showcased in a new and unique way,” said Jayna Hefford, the PWHL’s executive vice president of hockey operations.
“The three-on-three format creates an intense, fast-paced style of play, while the mix of teams will produce intriguing matchups and give both established stars and emerging talent the opportunity to shine.”
