New York City FC acquired forward Benie Traore from Switzerland’s FC Basel 1893 on Monday.
The 23-year-old Ivory Coast international will fill a designated player spot and is under contract through 2029-30 with an option for 2030-31.
Traore registered 25 goals and 15 assists in 80 appearances across all competitions with FC Basel from 2024-26.
“Benie brings pace, versatility, and a proven track record of getting on the score sheet,” NYCFC sporting director Todd Dunivant said. “In addition to what he contributes on the field, Benie will also add to our locker room and team culture through his infectious personality and team-first mentality.”
Traore has also played for Swedish side Hacken (2021-23), England’s Sheffield United (2023-24) and France’s Nantes (2024).
“I’m excited to join New York City FC and begin this next chapter of my career,” Traore said. “The style of play, the ambition of the club, and the belief shown in me made this the right opportunity. I’m looking forward to getting to work, helping the team achieve its goals, and competing for trophies.”
