MORSE TOWNSHIP, MN (KDAL) – Several area fire departments along with the Minnesota DNR and U-S Forest Service responded to reports of a fire on the north side of Birch Bay on Burntside Lake Monday afternoon.
The large fire had started in the area of North Arm Road and the Lindskog Road in Morse Township about 8 miles northwest of Ely and moved into a heavily wooded area.
There were some initial evacuations but, as of Monday night, no structures have been lost to the fire.
Firefighting ground crews and aircraft were able to hold the fire to an estimated 30 acres. The fire was being monitored overnight by the Forest Service with firefighting efforts to resume Tuesday morning.
The cause of the fire is unknown and being investigated.
