DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Permits for cutting Christmas trees, balsam boughs and firewood from the Superior National Forest are now available.
Permit prices are five dollars per tree, 20 dollars for enough boughs for five wreaths and year-round firewood permits are also twenty dollars.
There are restrictions and guidelines for cutting and gathering forest products and that information can be found at Forest Service offices or online at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/superior/passes-permits/forestproducts.
There is a two tree per household limit and cutting areas are on National Forest System land but not within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Trees should be the correct size for your home since cutting the tops off taller trees is not allowed and the maximum stump height is 12 inches.
