DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – After being closed since 2021 for reconstruction as part of the Twin Ports Interchange Project, I-535 reopened on Tuesday morning to connect north and southbound I-35 to the Blatnik Bridge.
That reopening was postponed by a year because of historical significant findings in the project area.
That portion of the road has not yet been completed and the Minnesota Department of Transportation has constructed a temporary bypass around the area.
Motorists are asked to slow down and use caution on that one lane bypass.
Motorists should also be aware of merging traffic from Wisconsin onto I-35 as I-535 opens.
Highway 53 bridges to 21st Avenue West should be complete this fall for access to Lincoln Park but Highway 53 connections to I-35 and I-535 won’t be complete until the fall of 2025.
