MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Pascal Wehrlein came first in the season-opening Mexico City E-Prix but the Porsche driver has not been confirmed as the winner due to an investigation for a possible technical infringement.
The German took the opening round of season 10 in Mexico City ahead of Envision Racing’s Sebastien Buemi and Jaguar TCS Racing’s Nick Cassidy, who rounded out the podium.
However, Wehrlein and Britain’s reigning champion Jake Dennis of Andretti are being investigated for a possible unspecified infringement in the opening laps of the race.
“The investigation has not yet been concluded as the hearing is still ongoing,” a spokesman said.
The win for Wehrlein, who claimed his third pole position at the shortened version of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez by overtaking Buemi in the final part of qualifying, would see him take the championship lead with 28 points.
The next race will take place in Diriyah on Jan. 27.
