Rollie D
Bio
Rollie Dethloff was born in September 1997 in Duluth, MN and has been speaking and writing ever since. Originally a Cotton Cardinal in his elementary school years where he wrote for the school paper, he later became a Cherry Tiger, graduating from there in 2016 following three years as an announcer and emcee for many school events. He also spent time as a traveling DJ with local DJ companies and student groups, where he both found his passion for music and began developing his voice. It was during this time that Rollie gained his passion for radio, and one day dreamed of stepping on the airwaves somewhere.
Radio and public speaking are big interests of Rollie’s. During his final years of high school, he traveled around the Northland providing play by play coverage over the internet on Free Range Sports for five different area schools. It was during this time that he reached out to Scott Hanson and arranged a job shadow at Radio USA, where he met the amazing people he now works alongside each and every day to bring you great radio content. Rollie still remembers this day of sitting in with Scott and visiting with the other radio personalities he grew up listening to as one of his fondest childhood memories.
In 2016 before leaving for college, Rollie began volunteering with KAXE/KBXE out of Grand Rapids and Bemidji, MN as an on-air host, a role he continues in today as he is able. In this role, he has had the opportunity to experience new genres and styles of music. It was here that Rollie had the privilege to interview Minnesota-based musicians Caleigh and Lance Benson during a station pledge drive in late 2018.
Rollie spent just over five years in Fargo-Moorhead living the “big city life” and attending college at NDSU from 2016-2017, and then at MSUM from 2018-2021. In college, he hosted shows on college-run KNDS, also serving as News Director for a period of time. He focused on bringing a diverse array of individuals from the Fargo-Moorhead community and beyond onto the airwaves of KRFF Radio Free Fargo for his show “Untitled” that ran for four years and 149 two hour episodes while featuring about ten co-hosts. With segments from cooking contests and video game updates to history lessons and movie reviews, it was here that Rollie grew an appreciation for the side of radio that deals with segments and bits, while also learning that radio can definitely be used for comedy and bringing laughter to those who may need some in their lives.
When not providing his vocal talent somewhere, you can catch Rollie playing the drums along with other auxiliary percussion instruments. He also enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the great wide world of music, snapping pictures of nature scenes wherever he finds them, and trying to make all the international dishes he found in Fargo at home. . Some of his favorite artists that you may hear on Radio USA include Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Tim Mc Graw, and Brad Paisley.
