DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department got a report just after midnight Sunday morning of a snowmobiler who went through the ice on Rice Lake.
Responding deputies found an unoccupied vehicle with a trailer at the public access parking lot and were able to reach the owner by phone.
The 35 year old man from Superior confirmed he broke through the ice earlier on his snowmobile that was towing a sled full of ice fishing gear.
He was able to get out of the lake, uninjured, and called family members for a ride home.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone that ice conditions vary and extreme caution should be used when venturing out on the ice during the early part of the ice fishing season.
