DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – Superior National Forest officials said Tuesday night that the Greenwood fire burning near Isabella has grown to 3,200 acres.
The aerial firefight is in full swing and crews are working to contain it on the ground.
County Highway 2 remains closed from Forest Highway 11 to Highway 1.
State Highway 1 is also closed from the New Tomahawk Road to the Lankinen Road.
With those closures comes evacuations for some residents in the at-risk zone.
The forest service says evacuations are in effect for McDougal Lake, Sand Lake, the county Highway 2 corridor, and just north of Highway 1.
The Lake County Sheriff visited 75 homes in the area and either notified residents of the evacuation or left a notice.
Forest officials say the dry, windy conditions have led to active fire growth and making it difficult to control.
The American Red Cross Northern Minnesota Chapter is opening a temporary evacuation point to house people displaced by the fire at the Finland Community Center on the Cramer Road.
