ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Adopt a Highway program.
More than 3800 volunteer groups, ranging from four to 25 people, have picked up 40 thousand bags of trash from Minnesota roadway ditches.
That allows MnDOT crews to focus on their other work like mowing and repairing guardrails.
Training, trash bags and safety vests are provided for the volunteers and roadway signs identify the segment of highway that the group looks after.
Over 630 segments remain available for adoption, most in greater Minnesota.
