UNDATED (KDAL) – The COVID-19 pandemic will present some challenges in celebrating Halloween this year.
Among the recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics is to have kids meet virtually to show off costumes to friends and relatives.
Dr. KenKnight, a pediatrician at Essentia Health says to avoid large gatherings such as costume parties or haunted houses and consider outdoor activities where ample social distancing is possible and wear a mask with your costume.
The Minnesota Department of Health says trick or treating is a high risk activity and those giving out treats should consider sitting outside and having pre-packaged goodie bags to pass out rather than having kids reach into a bowl of candy.
Those who will be trick or treating should make sure costumes are short enough to avoid tripping and use reflecting tape to improve visibility.
Wash hands carefully when returning home, wipe down candy wrappers and let sit for a couple days before eating.
