They began during the economic recession on the Iron Range in the early 80's when unemployment was over ten percent and thousand of miners were needing help getting food on the table for their families. Then known as the Arrowhead Food Bank, it later expanded to serve all of northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. Now the Northern Lakes Food Bank provides 4.8 million pounds of food each year to 120 non profit feeding programs and food shelves and helps over 47 thousand people.
