Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Power line crews have been busy today working to restore electricity to homes and businesses around the Northland. At last check, Minnesota Power was working to turn the lights back on for more than two-thousand customers in the Brainerd Lakes area. Closer to the Twin Ports, the utility reported that outages were affecting more than 700 customers on the Iron Range and about 900 customers around Duluth and Cloquet. Lake Country Power line crews are busy too. The lights are out for more than 10-thousand of its customers. Lake States Tree Service and Lake States Construction were assisting utility crews in their efforts to restore service. Both utilities attribute the outages to the severe thunderstorms that battered the area earlier this morning. Minnesota Power adds that heavy rainfall recently has saturated soil, making it easier for winds to topple large trees onto distribution and feeder lines around the region.
