Garth Brooks Holding Out Hope Ireland Concerts Can Go On

Could the five canceled Garth Brooks concerts in Ireland go on after all?

Garth's crew is still on its way to Ireland with the concert equipment for the shows, even though Aiken Promotions announced Tuesday all five shows have been called off. Ticketmaster plans to start processing refunds for the 400,000 tickets this Monday. The concerts were canceled because the city of Dublin only granted licenses for three of the planned five concerts, which means 160,000 of the 400,000 tickets sold would have been refunded.

In a letter sent to Aiken and printed in the Irish Independent , Garth expresses his heartbreak over the canceled gigs, saying, "I hope you understand that to play for 400,000 people would be a dream, but to tell 160,000 of those people that they are not welcome would be a nightmare. To do what the city manager suggests (play three shows and not all five) means I agree that is how people should be treated and I just can’t agree with that.”

Garth adds, "If you tell me, ‘Garth, thanks but it is over’, I will cease my efforts and bring our people and gear back to the States."

In the meantime, Garth is expected to reveal big news at a press conference in conjunction with Sony Music Thursday morning in Nashville. The media event is streaming live at GarthBrooks.com at 12 p.m. ET.
