GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The Green Bay Packers 2014 season will kick-off in a big way, as they travel to Seattle to face the defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks on Thursday night September 4.
It's the first time in franchise history that the Packers will open their season in Seattle and take on the defending champs in Week 1.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for our football team. We have experience playing in the kickoff opener three years ago, and we will draw on that," Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said in a statement. "Obviously, being the visiting team this time presents new challenges. It will help sharpen our focus even more during training camp and the preseason.”
The NFL released the schedule for all teams Wednesday evening. The Packers will play in four other prime-time games in 2014, subject to flex-scheduling. Those are currently scheduled for Thursday October 2 against the Minnesota Vikings, Sunday October 26 against the New Orleans Saints, Sunday November 9 against the Chicago Bears and Monday December 8 versus the Atlanta Falcons.
“It’s an honor. I know our fans around the world always appreciate the chance to watch us on national TV," said McCarthy. "Playing under the lights always adds to the atmosphere at Lambeau Field, and on the road.”
