Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan opened up about previously off-limits topics in their lives on ABC's In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts Tuesday night. First up, Jason talked about those photographs of him getting close with former American Idol contestant Brittany Kerr last year at a Los Angeles bar. He admitted those photos pointed to trouble in his relationship with then-wife, Jessica .
Jason said, "It was things going on in my marriage at the time where I just wasn't really happy, and you go out and you kinda let your guard down a little bit. It's hard enough to deal with it in private."
When asked if he actually cheated on his wife that night, Jason pointed out that paparazzi also photographed him leaving the bar in a cab with his buddies with Brittany Kerr nowhere in sight. Still, Jason announced he and Jessica were divorcing earlier this year.
Later in the show, Luke Bryan opened up about the untimely deaths of his two older siblings, Chris and Kelly . Chris died in a car accident just before 19-year-old Luke was planning to move to Nashville. He put off that dream for a few years to be with his family.
"I'm kind of hyperventilating talking about it," Luke said during the in-depth interview. "It was just not a cool deal. You never truly move beyond it."
When Luke finally made it to his debut performance on the Grand Ole Opry, his sister Kelly organized a trip to Nashville for more than 100 people from their Georgia hometown. Sadly, Kelly died at home of unknown causes days after that trip.
Luke's new single, "Drink a Beer," is a tribute to his siblings. He hopes his story and that song offer hope to those who have lost loved ones too soon.
Luke said, "If me telling my story moves people down a positive path of hope and getting up out of the bed and getting back going, it's certainly worth telling."
Luke and Jason are both set to perform on the 47th Annual CMA Awards Wednesday night at 8 ET on ABC. They're nominated together along with Eric Church in the Musical Event of the Year category for "The Only Way I Know."
