UNDATED (KDAL) - Law enforcement agencies in Minnesota and Wisconsin are participating in an intensified safety belt campaign called "Click It Or Ticket" that starts Monday and continues through June 2nd. Seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people from being thrown from a vehicle and the odds of an injury are 6 times greater in a crash for those not buckled up. Nearly 41 percent of all motorists killed in traffic crashes during the last three years in Minnesota were not wearing their seat belts. Wisconsin is lagging behind the national average and all neighboring states with only 80 percent of motorists buckling up. The national average is 86 percent and Minnesota is over 90 percent.
