GORDON, WI (KDAL) - The Department of Natural Resources has declared the Germann Road Fire to be 100 percent contained with the total acres burned adjusted down to 8,131. The DNR law enforcement, working with the Douglas County District Attorney's office, reports the fire was caused by equipment associated with logging operations. An operator of logging equipment noticed smoke coming from below the cutting head of a machine while harvesting timber. The operator was unable to extinguish the fire and called 9-1-1. DNR resources were on the scene within 10 minutes but the blaze spread quickly. The investigation said no negligence was involved and the District Attorney has recommended that no criminal charges be filed.
