Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Shipping from the Port of Duluth/Superior could start as soon as this Friday. The locks at the Sioux are scheduled to open on March 25th and the Coast Guard Ice Breaker "Mackinaw" was in the Duluth harbor yesterday cutting a path for the opening of the season. The captain reported ice that was twenty inches thick six miles out into the lake.
The Cutter and Buoy tender "Alder" has been working the ice for about a week now.
