DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - The Minnesota National Guard operates in 63 communities around the state including the 148th Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard in Duluth. Spokesperson Captain John Hobot says furloughs for federal military technicians and civilian employees has the potential to influence the readiness and training of service members and could affect 54 percent of the Guard's fulltime work force statewide. In Duluth, the 148th employs 241 technicians and all could be affected by sequestration. That is 60 percent of the 148th's fulltime workforce. A release from the Secretary of the Air Force says flying hours will be reduced and all aviation support for the public, such as flyovers, will be cut. The Air Force "Thunderbirds" demonstration team will also be cancelling their season beginning April 1st.
