ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN (KDAL) - The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a couple more snowmobile accidents Friday, with alcohol likely playing a part in one of them. The first occurred on the Arrowhead snowmobile trail north of Cook shortly after 1 p.m. Jeffrey Faust, 58, of Clearwater hurt his back after cresting a hill and landing on the trail. Faust was transported by ambulance to the Cook Hospital. At about 9:20 p.m. on the Brimson trail outside of Two Harbors, 57-year-old David Maxfield of Prior Lake was riding with two buddies when he sped ahead and out of sight on the trail. Maxfield apparently had trouble making a turn and was thrown from his snowmobile. He suffered a broken leg and shoulder or arm injuries; alcohol and excessive speed were believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
