HUDSON, Wis. (KDAL)  --  The man who killed his three daughters to get back at his ex-wife will never get out of prison alive.  35-year-old Aaron Schaffhausen received his sentence shortly before 4:00 p.m. Monday from St. Croix County Judge Howard Cameron.  “Considering the factors I mentioned, Mr Schaffhausen, I’m going to sentence you to the Wisconsin State Prison on counts one, two, and three to life in prison without eligibility for extended supervision.  The aggravated nature and type of the crime, killing your children, requires nothing less.”

During his comments prior to passing sentence, Judge Cameron said the majority of people work through their divorces, and he cannot find any mitigating circumstances in Schaffhausen’s favor, including any sort of mental illness.

Cameron said he must send a clear message in his sentencing.  “In this situation, I have to send a message to Jessica, to the public, that each child is so important that the sentence has to be consecutive to each other.  All four will be consecutive.  Each child has to be recognized as an individual girl.  To make it concurrent, I think would diminish what happened here with these young girls.”

11-year-old Amara, 8-year-old Sophie and 5-year-old Cecilia Schaffhausen died in their River Falls home last summer when their father put them to bed and slit their throats.

Jurors found Schaffhausen had a mental defect, but knew the killings were wrong.
