A Bayfield-area fishing guide is dead after his snowmobile went through the ice of a Lake Superior channel Saturday. James Hudson, 34, was in the water for about 45 minutes before rescue crews were able to pull him out. Apparently, a witness at the scene tried to pull Hudson to safety multiple times, but was unsuccessful. Hudson was flown to Essentia/St. Mary's in Duluth where he was pronounced dead. The Duluth News Tribune described Hudson as a "well-known fishing guide," who ran On The Spot Guide Service out of Hudson.
