DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District will see a total of 4.3 million in state and federal funds to repair the Scanlon Interceptor sewer pipe. The money comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and from the Minnesota Recovers disaster relief program. The Scanlon Interceptor is a 36 inch pipe that carries wastewater to the WLSSD pump station in West Duluth. The pipe and concrete supporting piers on a pipe bridge across Knowlton Creek were damaged in the June flood. The WLSSD will be replacing 265 linear feet of pipe and will also be repairing other damage caused by the flood.
