Superior Police are looking into a report of a man impersonating a police officer following a traffic stop early today. According to police, a white male in his mid-30s, about six feet tall with a light mustache and beard, performed a traffic stop in an alley east of the Superior post office about 1:00 a.m. The subject of the stop called police afterward. The man making the stop was wearing a Superior Police Department baseball cap, dark slacks and an SPD T-shirt, according to police. He was not carrying a firearm. The man identified himself as Officer Darg and was driving a blue car similar to a Chevrolet Lumina with flashing blue and red lights in the dash.
The department does not have an officer with that name on staff, and no records for the traffic stop exist from the SPD, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office or the Wisconsin State Patrol. Anyone with information is asked to call Superior police. If a citizen suspects a stop from a phony officer, he/she is asked to call 911.
