DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - The American Red Cross is joining the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in urging everyone six months of age and older to get vaccinated against the flu. Widespread flu activity is now being reported across Minnesota, WIsconsin and 39 other states. Red Cross Northland Chapter executive director, Judy Hanne Gonzalez, says they don't offer flu shots but they are available in many locations including some drug stores, discount stores and from your doctor. Besides flu shots, other steps can be taken to help prevent getting the disease including frequent hand washing and avoiding close contact with those who are sick. Unlike the common cold, the flu usually features a sore throat, high fever and severe body aches along with a cough and stuffy nose. The CDC says this is the worst influenza outbreak in several years in the U-S.
