Duluth, MN (KDAL) - A move that is intended to save the company some money, the Canadian National Railroad on New Year's Day consolidated the operations of the Wisconsin Central Railroad and the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern into the CN. The official merger of the lines came after contract talks with several unions. CN had owned all the lines for sometime.
The E-J & E operates around the Chicago area and the W-C is a line that runs from Superior to Chicago with branch lines throughout Wisconsin. C-N employs several hundred people in the Twin Ports and Northeastern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.
