Duluth, MN (KDAL) - The early onset of winter has had an effect on the shipping industry. That’s according to Adele Yorde of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority. She tells K-D-A-L News the snow and cold has delayed operations at the Port of Duluth-Superior. In fact, even beyond the loading docks, Yorde says landside transportation was delayed due to the heavy snow earlier this month. Now with ice in the port, tugboats have been trying to keep lanes open and the Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay has been working to break up the ice. Speaking of the ice, Yorde says the ice conditions this year have been brutal and is the most they’ve seen in ten to 15 years. Meanwhile on the Great Lakes the canals connecting the lakes are becoming clogged with ice.
