Duluth, MN (KDAL) - MN-DOT is asking motorists to follow the posted detour for southbound I-35. Pat Huston of the department of transportation tells K-D-A-L News that drivers have been jumping off of the detour at Michigan and 21st Avenue West and taking Michigan to 27th Avenue West. That’s led to traffic congestion because the intersection wasn’t designed to handle the traffic. And with the winter storm, the clogged intersection will slow down the plows. Huston is asking motorists to follow the detour up 21st to I-35.
In related news, the Duluth Police Department is urging motorists to follow the detour as well. During the day Monday officers were called out to more than 30 crashes due to the slippery roads and I-35 project. Authorities remind commuters, the posted detour for I-35 is the quickest route and will be plowed first.
Word to the wise… shovel your driveway and walk before Wednesday’s big cool down. Forecasters say the winter storm will be followed by plunging temperatures, which will make the snow nearly impossible to shovel. Make sure to take plenty of breaks and don’t overdo it.
