SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) - City of Superior officials received confirmation this week that the Emerald Ash Borer was discovered in the city. Crews found signs of the insect during the removal of a dead ash tree from the boulevard at 608 Grand Avenue and while inspecting trees in the surrounding neighborhood found an insect that resembled an Emerald Ash Borer in a tree at North 5th Street and Baxter Avenue. The sample was then verified as an E-A-B by U-S Agriculture officials in Michigan. Because of the presence of the insect, all of Douglas County will be quarantined and wood products will be banned from being moved out of the county to areas that are not infested. Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen says the city has about 3,000 ash trees and they will be monitored for signs of the Emerald Ash Borer.
