Newport News, VA (KDAL) - The U-S Navy will christen its newest attack submarine "Minnesota" tomorrow at a ceremony tomorrow in Newport News. Ellen Roughead, wife of former Chief of Naval Operations, she's from Minnesota, will crack the bottle of champagne over the bow of the ship.
This is the third Navy vessel to carry the State's name. The first one was a sailing steam frigate commissioned in 1857. Two Navy vessels have been named after the city of Duluth.
The crew of the new Minnesota will be 137 officers and enlisted personnel.
