Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Duluth might have one less competitor in the shipping business. Yesterday Minneapolis R.T. Rybak told a development committee of the City Council that he would like to close down the fifty year old North Minneapolis Port Terminal to barge traffic. The reason is to stop the migration of Asian Carp. The Mayor wants to turn the 48 acre sight into a new development for housing and recreation along the riverbank.
Union leaders were on the other side of the table telling councilors that shutting down the Minneapolis North Port Terminal would cost valuable jobs.
NOTE: The photo shows a proposed park where the current Port of North Minneapolis is now.
