BARNUM, MN (KDAL) - Volunteers from the Barnum Fire Department and the Carlton County Sheriff's Department responded to a call regarding a dog that fell through the ice on Little Hanging Horn Lake late Thursday afternoon. The 3 year old dog, weighed around a hundred pounds and was more than 150 feet from shore when it broke through the ice on the lake in Barnum. Using a boat, rescuers were able to get the dog out of the water and returned to its owner. The Sheriff's Department says the incident should serve as a reminder of ice that can be unpredictably thin this time of year. Caution and common sense should be used before venturing onto any frozen water.
