(KDAL) - The opening weekend of the first wolf hunt in Minnesota saw a total of 50 wolves taken by hunters. The East Central zone where the target harvest is 9 will close to hunting at the end of the day Monday since 8 were taken in that area by Sunday. In the Northeast zone, 22 of the target 58 wolves were harvested and 20 were taken in the Northwest Zone over the weekend where the target is 133.
Meanwhile, at least two deer hunters died while hunting on the opening weekend. James Swor of Carlos died in Douglas County, Minnesota from a medical condition while tracking a deer he had shot. Donald Bixby died after being shot by another hunter near Bemidji on Saturday. An investigation into that incident is being conducted.
