UNDATED (KDAL) - The 2011 Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener is the official start of the state's fishing season. The celebration is underway in Grand Rapids with Governor Mark Dayton and Lt. Governor Yvonne Prettner-Solon attending several special events including a community picnic on Friday evening. The Governor will join other guests as they fish on Pokegema Lake Saturday. The Governor's Opener has been a tradition in the state since 1948 and was last held in Grand Rapids in 1999. Fishing is about a 2.8 billion dollar industry in Minnesota.
