Governor Dayton Accepts Earlier GOP Offer With Conditions

ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) - In effort to bring the Minnesota government shutdown to an end, Governor Mark Dayton has sent a letter to the Republican leaders of the state house and senate accepting an earlier offer that they submitted at the end of June.  It would balance the budget by delaying payment of school funds and borrowing against the state's tobacco settlement.  Although Dayton says he has serious reservations about the plan, he feels the continued shutdown of state government would be even more destructive for Minnesotans.  His acceptance does add three conditions including the dropping of a 15 percent across the board reduction in state employees and support and passage of a 500 million dollar bonding bill to put people in the state back to work. If the Republicans agree, Dayton would call a special session of the legislature within three days.
