ASHLAND, WI (KDAL) - A huge marijuana grow operation located in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Ashland County was eradicated Wednesday. Officials found thousands of plants over a several-acre area of U.S. Forest land approximately 25 miles northwest of Park Falls. Law enforcement got a tip from a hunter in November 2010. Approximately 175 federal, state, and local law enforcement agents were involved in Wednesday's effort to remove the marijuana plants and process the site for evidence. It appears that the grow operation has been active for some time. Individuals who cultivated the grow operation had a campsite on the grounds, where loaded firearms were found. Law Enforcement Officials arrest five additional subjects believed to be involved in the pot operation; those folks had remained at large since Wednesday when one person was arrested. A statement from the attorney general's office says no additional subjects are believed to be at large at this time.
