GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) - It's been a year and a half since President Obama's economic stimulus bill was passed. Monday the public got a chance to hear from area leaders on how it's working.
One of the featured speakers at the forum, Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, says he had high hopes for the Recovery Act, but, "the results have been disappointing."
"I know a lot of money has been spent," Schmitt says. "But it didn't achieve the goal of really creating jobs, which is what we wanted to do."
The Mayor says his office submitted a number of projects for funding, like the reconstruction of Military, Velp, and Webster Avenues; and a business park. But that's not where the money went.
"Money went to the state to help their deficit, and that's ridiculous...it created no jobs."
Green Bay received $5.4 million in stimulus funds, while Brown County officials say they received between $10-$12 million for requested projects. Schmitt says, the city is moving forward with the projects... with, or without the help of Washington.
