WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - 4 Vietnam veterans from Wisconsin were among 97 honored posthumously Monday at a ceremony in Washington. All died from conditions relating to their service. But they were not killed in combat, so their names won’t appear on the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial wall in the nation’s capital.
This year’s Wisconsin honorees are Thomas Davies of Lake Mills and Bruce Peters of Waukesha – both of whom died from exposure to the chemical Agent Orange. Jacob Drager of Medford died from injuries in 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. And Kenneth McGuire of Rib Lake died from malaria.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has honored almost 2,000 people who died after the war as a result of their service. Many died from Agent Orange exposure, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other conditions.
