Quite often when we live in an area, we are guilty of not exploring our own back yard enough. The Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) falls into the category for me and probably for a lot of others around the Northland. I guess I've always thought of it as a place where hard core hikers and backpackers go. However this weekend while exploring, and geocaching, the fall color of the North Shore we ended up hiking a few short sections of the trail. Impressed is what we were; not only with the fall color but also how well the trail is maintained and signed.
Maci had no trouble following this trail.
The SHT is a 296 mile footpath that will take you from Duluth to the Canadian border. Or if you're like us will offer some stunning views, and this time of year great fall color, in just a few miles. Of course pictures never do justice to the view, but trust me this was an awe inspiring place to stand.
Near Section 13, popular with rock climbers, between Little Marais and Finland.
Now that I'm back home and learning more about the SHT, I discover "Yes there is an app for that!" And it has 11 day hikes listed like this one:

So what are you waiting for? The fall colors are not going to be around much longer. You can find out more information about the Superior Hiking Trail at their website. Enjoy.
