TMZ is reporting that Randy Travis has been hospitalized following an altercation.

Around 1 a.m. local time in Texas, law enforcement sources say the police were called to a church parking lot where two men were engaged in a fight. Both men were taken to the hospital and one source says Travis was "extremely intoxicated."

Travis was cited for simple assault. Officials believe Randy was the primary aggressor. 

Cops say ... there was a "family argument" taking place between a husband and a wife ... and Randy got involved.  Another man was involved in the fight, but cops say it wasn't the husband.
