OLYMPICS: Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Win Third Gold

Posted by Scott Hanson on

In their last match together, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh won their third consecutive Olympic gold medal today (Wednesday) by beating a pair of fellow Americans.

May-Treanor and Walsh beat Jennifer Kessy and April Ross, 21-16, 21-16, on the sand at the Horse Guards Parade. Although they lost one set at this Olympics, the pair ended their overall Olympic run -- which runs from Athens in 2004 through Beijing in 2008 and now in London -- with a 21-0 record in matches. Perhaps more importantly, the duo made beach volleyball a worldwide phenomenon.

Kessy put it all in the proper perspective after the match, saying, "They are the best team of all time. It doesn't feel too bad being second to them right now."
