JETER, CHEATER?

New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter may be trying to get more work as an actor. The All-Star already has a cameo in The Other Guys, the recent Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg flick, but Wednesday night he may have given the performance of his life. During a pennant race game with the Tampa Bay Rays, pitcher Chad Qaulls appeared to plunk Jeter was a fastball -- at least judging by Jeter's reaction. He spun around, grabbed his arm, grimaced and even had the Yankees trainer come out and examine him. But the replay shows the ball hit the knob of the bat and not Jeter. Major League Baseball doesn't use replay in those instances, so Jeter was awarded first base, much to the chagrin of Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon -- who was ejected for arguing about the call -- and the Tampa Bay fans, who chanted, "Jeter cheater!"
