A former music manager of Taylor Swift's is suing her for millions in alleged unpaid commissions. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Dan Dymtrow claims that he signed Taylor to a management contract in April of 2004, developed her as an artist and then introduced her to Scott Borchetta, head of Big Machine Records, who signed her. Dymtrow says he had a deal with Taylor and her parents to be paid between five and 10% commission from her career, but he's claiming he was fired so they could avoid paying him when she signed her record deal.
For their part, the Swift family claims that Dymtrow never got a court approval of the management contract he signed with Taylor, which he would've needed because she was a minor at the time. Therefore, says the family, she legally dis-affirmed the contract in 2005, months before she signed with Big Machine and a year before she released her debut single. Taylor's lawyer tells the Hollywood Reporter, "For him to claim that her success and her major contracts were procured by him is ludicrous."
Last week, Dymtrow's lawyer submitted a letter to the court, arguing that the manager was the victim of conspiracy between Taylor's dad and Scott Borchetta. The lawyer submitted as proof a 2006 e-mail from Swift to Borchetta, in which Swift stated, "Enough with the Dymtrow. You asked me to break both his legs, wrap him in chains and throw him in the lake. I did." Dymtrow says the e-mail proves that Swift and Borchetta conspired to fire him, and that it suggests that they were trying to avoid paying him what he is owed.
In addition to a cut of Taylor's record sales, Dymtrow also wants commissions from her concerts, because he claims he introduced her to the agents who ended up booking all her tours. As far as that claim goes, Taylor's lawyer said, "To say that is worth millions is just the height of overreaching."
You'll have that. I'm sure every Tom, Dick and Harry that has had any contact with Taylor over the past 6 years has tried to figure out how to get their hands on a piece of the pie that is the Taylor Swifty dynasty.
