Kevin Sharp passed away Saturday night (4/19) of ongoing complications from past stomach surgeries and digestive issues at the age of 43, according to his website .
He was not only a platinum-selling singer, but an author, and motivational speaker as well. He made his debut in Country music in 1997 with the No. 1 hit, Nobody Knows, a cover song of R&B artist Tony Rich.
Sharps debut album, Measure of a Man , was released the same year, producing additional Top 5 singles If You Love Somebody and Shes Sure Taking It Well.
Kevin was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in high school and was told his chances of survival were low. He was then introduced to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and was honored with his wish of meeting producer-songwriter-artist David Foster. After two years of chemo, experimental drugs and radiation treatments he went into remission in 1991. Due in part to his friendship with Foster, he became a Country artist who landed a record deal.
Sharps musical career garnered many accolades including New Male Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music, New Male Touring Artist of the Year from the Country Music Association/SRO, Favorite New Country Artist from the American Music Awards, Billboard Magazines Best New Country Video and TNN/Music City News Male Star of Tomorrow.
Kevin was one of the nicest artists we've ever worked with. He did a show for us a few years ago and was very ill at the time. He still did everything in his power to not cancel and performed, even when we knew he was struggling. His strength was amazing. He didn't want to let us or our listeners down.
Our hearts are breaking for his family.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation . Memories of Sharp can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org , while cards can be sent to the family at: Kevin Sharp c/o Sue Veldkamp, POB 54646, Cincinnati, OH, 45254.
